On 8 September CEOs of the Air Navigation Services Providers (ANSPs) of the Czech Republic, Republic of Lithuania, Republic of Poland and Slovak Republic signed a Consortium Agreement for the participation in the SESAR Joint Undertaking.
The Members of the Consortium, named B4, expressed thereby their wish to work together for the delivery of a joint application in response to the Call for expressions of interest to become candidate member of the SESAR Joint Undertaking – SESAR Research and Innovation Programme 2020.
All Members of the Consortium are fully aware of and committed to already commenced and future changes in the air traffic management across Europe stemming from the Single European Sky initiative and they fully share and endorse the SES concept, including SESAR as its technological pillar.
After due considerations and careful analysis of strengths and operational capacity, the Consortium Members gained confidence in their eligibility for membership in the SJU as they have numerous interesting ideas and projects that fall within SESAR 2020 programme.
The Members of B4 believe that by combining their different know-how as well as by collating their different areas of expertise, this regional approach to the R&D will yield economies of scale and bring about added value to the overall SESAR programme. On top of this, B4, once selected, would ensure a balanced representation of ANSPs from different European regions within the SJU.
The initiative brings together ANSPs of Central and Eastern Europe that have recently experienced significant traffic increase. This, together with the fact that B4 is composed of ANSPs of two Functional Airspace Blocks, is particularly noteworthy and represents even more added value to the SESAR programme.
The call for expression of interests to become candidate member of the SESAR Joint Undertaking is addressed to the current members, who wish to confirm their interest in SESAR 2020, and to any new entity who intends to become a member of the SJU, and who fulfils the criteria established in the SJU Regulation and Horizon 2020. The target date for a submission of the application is 30 September 2014.
